Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM, acupuncture & herbs) has been proven as an effective treatment for stress, anxiety, fatigue, and depression. These emotional problems can require medication, which can have serious side effects. But acupuncture does not have any side effects.
Acupuncture for emotional problems is effective, symptoms lessen after the first few visits, and we are confident it attacks the problem at its roots.
Ancient Acupuncture Master describes an energy force(qi) that regulates the body's overall health. Like blood in the circulatory system, Energy force moves throughout the body. When factors like injury, stress, poor nutrition, or a change in environment disrupt the flow of energy force, health issues follow.
The National Institutes of Health(NIH) has commented:
"Qi(energe force) regulates spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical balance. Qi is influenced by the opposing forces of Yin and Yang. According to traditional Chinese medicine, when yin and yang are balanced, they work together with the natural flow of qi to help the body achieve and maintain health. Acupuncture is believed to balance yin and yang, keep the normal flow of energy unblocked, and restore health to the body and mind."
"Studies have shown that acupuncture may alter brain chemistry by changing the release of neurotransmitters and neurohormones in a good way."
By inserting acupuncture needles at specific points in the body, we restore the balance of energy force and the body's overall health.
Symptoms frequently addressed by Traditional Chinese Medicine include:
- Sadness, crying, suicidal thoughts
- Fatigue
- Excessive sleeping or insomnia
- Lack of motivation
- Mental fog/inability to concentrate
- Anxiety
- Manic episodes/bipolar
- Lack of appetite or overeating
Stress and Anxiety with Traditional Chinese Medicine
Stress causes tension build up in the shoulders, which leads to shoulder pain, neck pain and headaches. Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques such as acupuncture and acupressure can induce a relaxation response, which decreases the heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases energy and tissue regeneration, and reduces stress. One feels more relaxed, and digestion improves. As tension is relieved, so are headaches. Instead of being tense and angry, one remains calm, tempers stay even, and blood pressure can even decrease. Studies have shown that the substances released in the body as a result of acupuncture relax the body, and also regulate serotonin in the brain, which affects emotional states. Researchers at Georgetown University used lab(April 2013 issue of the Journal of Endocrinology) studies to demonstrate that acupuncture slows the body's production of stress hormones.
Traditional Chinese Medicine will not change the circumstances of a person's life. But it can relieve feelings of anxiety or depression. As the heavy feelings of stress are relieved, a person feels more confidence in his ability to cope with the negative aspects of life and make necessary changes. This can eliminate dependence on sleeping pills, tranquilizers and antidepressants.
Some other common symptoms of stress are headache, backache (or general aches and pains), dermatological disorders, digestive and sleep disorders, depression, poor concentration, and memory loss. There is even evidence that chronic stress can lead to such long-term health problems as hair loss, strokes, asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
Many people resort to food when feeling stressed and anxious. Some turn to alcohol, sleeping pills or antidepressants. Antidepressants prescribed to reduce stress can deliver only limited, short-term relief and often lead to chemical dependence.
